Fire Station No. 10

Columbus, Ohio

Harris Architects was commissioned to design the City’s first LEED Certified second generation state-of-the-art fire station prototype. The facility is located in the historic core of the community of Franklinton. The new station provides four emergency vehicle apparatus bays, 18 firefighter dormitories, commercial kitchen facilities, day rooms, Public Emergency Services quarters, bulletproof watch booth and lower level firefighter classrooms, recreation, facility support, and training areas.

The building design was conceptualized to compliment the original historic Fire Station No. 10’s scale and architectural features. The historic station was preserved using the ground floor to educate the public about the station’s community history. A complementary component sharing the station's service to the community was the design of a memorial tribute to fallen firefighter Maurice Gates, who was assigned to Fire Station No. 10.
